The Complete Guide to QuartHaus Dog Park Etiquette
Our enclosed dog park at QuartHaus is one of Chandler's most unique amenities—a place where dogs can play off-leash while their owners enjoy craft beer and great food. To keep it safe and enjoyable for everyone, we've put together this comprehensive etiquette guide.
Before You Arrive
Is Your Dog Ready?
✅ Good candidates for our dog park:
Friendly with other dogs
Up-to-date on vaccinations
Comfortable in social settings
Responds to basic commands
Over 4 months old
⚠️ Dogs who might not enjoy the park:
Aggressive or reactive dogs
Unvaccinated puppies under 4 months
Dogs in heat
Sick or injured dogs
Extremely anxious dogs
Entering the Dog Park
**Use the double-gate system properly**
- Close the first gate before opening the second
- Prevents dogs from escaping
**Remove your dog's leash immediately**
- Leashed dogs in off-leash parks can become reactive
- Hang leashes on provided hooks
**Watch your dog's initial interaction**
- First 3-5 minutes are crucial
- Be ready to intervene if needed
While in the Park
Active Supervision is Required
Stay engaged:
👀 Watch your dog at all times
📱 Put your phone away (or limit use)
🚶 Move around, don't just sit
🗣️ Call your dog regularly to maintain connection
Reading Dog Body Language
Good play looks like:
Play bows
Bouncy movements
Role reversing (taking turns chasing)
Breaks in play
Loose, wagging tails
Warning signs:
Stiff body language
Whale eye (showing whites of eyes)
Raised hackles
Continuous mounting
One dog hiding or trying to leave
Intervention Guidelines
When to step in:
Play is too rough
One dog seems overwhelmed
Mounting persists
Resource guarding over toys
Any sign of aggression
How to intervene:
Call your dog away calmly
Don't yell or panic
Separate dogs if necessary
Take a break outside the park if needed
Food & Treats Policy
❌ Do NOT bring:
Dog treats into the park
Bones or chews
Your own food
✅ Instead:
Give treats outside the park before/after
Reward good behavior with play
Use positive attention
**Why?** Treats and food can trigger resource guarding and conflict between dogs.
Toy Etiquette
Shared toys are provided
Remove any toy causing conflict
Don't bring your dog's favorite toy (too possessive)
Report damaged toys to staff
Waste Management
This is NON-NEGOTIABLE:
💩 Pick up after your dog IMMEDIATELY
🗑️ Use provided waste bags and bins
🧹 Help keep the park clean for everyone
**Pro tip:** Pick up waste from other dogs too—we're all in this together!
Social Etiquette for Humans
Do:
✅ Be friendly and communicative
✅ Watch ALL dogs, not just yours
✅ Speak up if you see a problem
✅ Respect other owners' space
✅ Help new visitors feel welcome
Don't:
❌ Bring children under 10 into the dog area
❌ Sit on the ground (dogs might jump on you)
❌ Bring outside alcohol (enjoy drinks on the patio!)
❌ Use the park as a bathroom for humans
❌ Smoke or vape in the dog park
When to Leave the Park
Time for a break when:
Your dog is panting heavily
Energy level is too high (zoomies become chaos)
Your dog seems tired or stressed
Conflicts arise repeatedly
You need to use the restroom/order food
**Recommended visit length:** 30-60 minutes maximum
Special Considerations
Puppies (4-12 months)
Keep visits short (15-20 minutes)
Visit during quieter hours
Remove them if overwhelmed
Positive experiences are crucial!
Senior Dogs
Monitor for fatigue
Protect from overly rambunctious young dogs
Shorter visits are better
Small Dogs
We welcome all sizes!
Watch for size-mismatched play
Feel free to create a "small dog zone" informally
Problem Solving
My dog is being bullied:
Remove your dog immediately
Let them calm down outside the park
Re-enter when the situation changes
My dog is the bully:
Call your dog away
Take a timeout outside
If it continues, end the visit
Consider training support
Dogs are fighting:
DO NOT physically intervene between fighting dogs
Call staff immediately
Make loud noises to distract
Use water if available
